2 out of 5 stars All of the bells and whistles don't make up for its inaccuracy   July 15, 2010
S. Kendall (Florida, USA)
I purchased this pedometer because my fiancee had an Omron HJ-720ITC which does pretty much everything this one does, even keeping track of your data on the computer, so that we wouldn't get the two of them mixed up. Now I'm regretting that decision, wishing I'd just gotten the same model as her because this one is so inaccurate.

All of the software and other features work as advertised, but the unit is way too sensitive and you can't adjust the sensitivity as you can with some other pedometers. Just riding in my car for 10 miles I racked up over 200 steps. If I'm sitting in my chair at work for an hour or so, I'll rack up around 500 steps from the slightest movements.

How on earth could I have racked up over 13,000 steps when I was sitting in front of the computer all day? I purchased this based off of the positive reviews here on Amazon, but now I'm starting to think they were faked or something because the reviews on [...] claim the same problem I had. I just wish I'd read those before I made my purchase.

If you want a pedometer that you can track your progress, don't waste your money on this unit. Get the Omron model insteadOmron HJ-720ITC Pocket Pedometer with Advanced Omron Health Management Software.

5 out of 5 stars Walk-on!   April 23, 2010

Great pedometer--lots of functions--able to calibrate it to your stride, age and weight (don't ever lose it cause it will tell your secrets ha!just kidding). I absolutely love it!and the hardest part has been finding a way to wear it with my dresses to work! only wish the clip was a little more intense in its bite to always keep it attached. It has really motivated me to walk more--I won't go to bed until I clear at least ten thousand steps a day--this motivation allowed me to help my team take 3rd place in the weight loss contest we did at work! Even find extra ways to get more steps now such as park farther, take the long way around to where I need to be, etc

5 out of 5 stars Pedometer with PC Option   January 26, 2010

I purchased the Oregon Pedometer from OPENTIP and received it promptly. I love the fact that I can connect it to my PC and program the specs I want through the computer. Since I have problems manually inputting my desired data this option is an excellent tool for me. When I am done exercising I can download the data and graph my progress.

5 out of 5 stars Walk a Mile in My Shoes... Make that Two!   June 12, 2008

This is one fantastic pedometer! First and foremost, the ability to store up to seven days worth activity on the pedometer itself and additionally to be able to download and save all of your activity onto your computer make this pedometer extremely useful and practical. The included software is surprisingly robust and allows you to set all kinds of preferences, alarms, and activity goals; and also offers analysis of your activity versus goals, including graphs. You can use the accompanying base to upload your information or any USB A-B cable. This is great because I can leave my base at home, and use a regular USB cable at work and/or on my laptop without bringing a bulky base.

The pedometer is very compact - about as big as two quarters, but the display is very easy to read with large numbers and letters. It has a variety of modes that you can cycle through, and you can set preferences, goals, timers, alarms, etc. either on the pedometer itself or on the computer with the included software.

I find the pedometer to be nearly perfectly accurate, with no more than one step +/- off for every 100 steps or so - that's incredible! The pedometer is supposed to be able to differentiate between running steps and walking steps, and it does, but it doesn't seem to count my steps when I go jogging as running - only when I run at a faster pace. Since I prefer to jog to keep my impact low, this is the one drawback I've found with the device. Don't get me wrong, it still counts the steps, but when it uploads to the software, it counts my jogging steps as walking ones.

The pedometer is light, but also seems solidly built. The buttons are small, but easy to get used to, and the display is in a position that you can always see it without having to take it off of you first.

Overall, I am really pleased with the quality of the pedometer and the ability to use the goals and software makes it fun and encouraging to get out and stay active. It's really great to see you have met your goals for the day and are on your way to getting healthier. If I had to pick one word to describe this pedometer, I would say it would be "indispensable".
